dr. lisa mcniven, principal viola

Dr. Lisa McNiven, a native of Rexburg, is an active performer and teacher in the Southeast Idaho community. She holds music degrees from Brigham Young University-Idaho and The University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, and served as principal violist in multiple ensembles at both institutions. While a student, she spent several summers as a fellowship student at the prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School. Lisa has been a full scholarship student of Dr. R. Kevin Call, Dr. Catharine Carroll, and Mr. Masao Kawasaki. Her competition successes include the BYU-Idaho concerto competition, the Coeur d’Alene Symphony Young Artists Competition, and the International Gee Viola Competition. Lisa currently teaches viola and music history at BYU-Idaho, and maintains a private violin and viola studio in Rexburg. She performs regularly with the Grand Teton Music Festival, the Serenata String Quartet, and is an active solo recitalist.
