2019-2020 IFYS Auditions

Families who are new to Southeastern Idaho may reach out about audition opportunities. Additionally, students who play the horn are especially needed and are welcome to audition. All other auditions are currently closed.

  • Students in grades 7-12 are eligible to play in the Youth Symphony. All levels are encouraged to audition.

  • Students are expected to be regular members of their school orchestra, band, or percussion class. Exceptions will be made for home-school students and students whose school does not have any of the above-mentioned groups.

  • Youth Symphony rehearsals are on Thursday evenings 7:00-9:00 p.m. from September through December and January through April. Excellent attendance is expected.

  • There is a $65.00 annual tuition fee for new and returning members of the Youth Symphony. This fee will be due upon acceptance; there is NO COST to audition for the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony.

  • The Youth Symphony Retreat will be required for all new and returning players. More information on the 2019 retreat coming soon.

Audition Date/Time/Place:

  • Auditions for the 2018-19 academic season have already occurred. If you are new to the community and would like to audition, please reach out. Otherwise, audition requests are closed at this time (except if you play horn).

  • Auditions will take place in early May 2019. Dates will be announced in March. If you would like to be on a list to receive notifications about auditions, please sign up at the bottom of this page. You will only be emailed about the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony.

  • Students should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their audition time to warm-up. There will be a shared warm-up space available for all musicians, and parents are welcome to join their students in the warm-up space. Parents will not be permitted in the audition room. Auditions will take place at Idaho Falls High School.

  • Email questions to our Education Coordinator, Daniel Doherty, at education@ifsymphony.org.

  • All interested applicants must fill out a registration form to request a time slot. In years past we have had over 70 students audition, so if you do not request a time, we may not be able to accommodate you. A form will be made available approximately two months prior to the audition.
