The Nutcracker Featuring the Eugene Ballet

  • Civic Center for the Performing Arts 501 South Holmes Avenue Idaho Falls, ID, 83401 United States (map)

Eugene Ballet, Brian McWhorter, conductor

Idaho Falls School of Ballet, Deb Bean, director

What’s interesting about this concert?

  • The Nutcracker has become Tchaikovsky’s most famous composition by far, despite the fact that he always considered the storyline unsuccessful.

  • Yes, there are cannons! During the battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, someone has to fire a shot, and it’s either the stage crew or the orchestra. You’ll have to listen and find out.

  • Yes, there is snow! The magical Eugene Ballet production includes falling snow, and the Hillcrest High School Women’s Choir provides the heavenly chorus, during the Dance of the Snowflakes at the end of Act 1.

  • The newly-renovated Civic Center for the Performing Arts finally has an automatic pit filler! Now all we have to do is squeeze the usual 40-piece orchestra in on top of that and we’re ready to go.
